Gladiators Weekly Update

December 27, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Atlanta Gladiators News Release

A New ECHL Leader: Gladiators captain Cam Brown continues to creep towards the ECHL all time games played record currently held at 678 games by Rod Taylor set from 1991-03. Taylor played with six different teams. Brown has appeared in 676 games in his ECHL career, just 2 games shy of tying the all time mark and needs 3 to break the record. If Brown doesn't miss a game, he is schedule to tie the record on Thursday when the Gladiators visit Greenville and will set a new record on Saturday when the Gladiators visit Augusta.

Two in a Row: Jim Jackson recorded his 5th goal of the season in the Gladiators 3-2 loss vs. Columbia on Sunday. With the goal, the defenseman has now recorded a goal in each of the Gladiators past two games. Jackson twice tallied goals in two consecutive games last season for the Gladiators.

Picking Up a Pair: Brad Schell picked up assists on each assists of the Gladiators goals in Sunday's 3-2 loss against Columbia. For the rookie under contract to the Atlanta Thrashers, it was his fourth multiple assist night of the season.

On the Power Play: The Gladiators scored both goals in Sunday's 3-2 loss against Columbia on the power play. It was the second consecutive game for Gwinnett picking up every goal on the power play. The Gladiators are currently in 1st in the ECHL on the power play, converting on 21.4 % of their opportunities with 25 power play goals this season.

At the Top: Gwinnett continues to the lead the ECHL in attendance averaging over 6,450 fans per game. The Gladiators had their 7th game this season with over 6,000 fans on Sunday as 7,039 fans watched the Gladiators drop a 3-2 decision against Columbia. The Florida Everblades sit in second in attendance with an average of 5,767 through 16 home games this season. The Gladiators have played 12 home games to date.

Within Reach: Mike Vigilante tallied his 13 goal of the season in Sunday's 3-2 loss against Columbia and is just 2 goals shy of tying his career high for goals in a season. The Dearborn, Michigan native recorded a career high 15 goals during his rookie season with the Mobile Mysticks in the 2001-02 season. Vigilante needs just one goal to tie the Gladiators current team high for goals this season at 14 tallies. Brett Engelhard, who is currently in the AHL with St. John's, holds the Gladiators current ream record.

Last Week's Games: 0-1-0, 0 pts.
