Augusta Lynx News Release

The power play came through at the right time for the Augusta Lynx on Friday night, propelling them to a 3-2 shootout win over the South Carolina Stingrays at the Augusta-Richmond County Civic Center.

Brian Passmore notched the lone goal of the first period by going hard to the Stingrays' goal and pounding home the rebound of a Martin Lapointe shot to make it 1-0 Lynx. BJ Gaustad also added an assist on the goal at 15:12 of the opening frame.

South Carolina came back with a pair of power play goals by Ty Morris and Cail MacLean to grab a 2-1 edge by the :34 mark of the third period. But then the Lynx got the power play going during a five-on-three advantage, with Joe Pereira pushing home a rebound in front of the Stingrays net off the right pad of Maxime Daigneault (41 saves) to tie the game and send it to overtime. Lapointe collected his second assist of the game while Anthony Battaglia also chipped in at 10:04 of the final frame.

No scoring in overtime led to a shootout, where Lapointe and Sam Ftorek both marked for Augusta while Jason Wolfe shut down four of five Stingrays shooters for the Lynx win. Augusta is now 4-1-1 in their last six games, and finished the night 1-for-7 on the power play. South Carolina finished 2-for-5.
