
2003 All-Star Game Produces Three NHL Players

PRINCETON, N.J. - The 2003 ECHL All-Star Game was the second year that the
ECHL asked its coaches to select players who the coaches believed were
prospects who possessed the necessary skills to move up to the American
Hockey League and the National Hockey League.
Three players from the 2003 ECHL All-Star Game have advanced to play in the
National Hockey League while goaltender Adam Hauser was called up by
Los Angeles on Thursday and is currently serving as the backup for the
Kings.
Named to the ECHL All-Star Game and the ECHL All-Rookie Team in his first
professional season in 2002-03, Zenon Konopka made his NHL debut for
Anaheim on Oct. 30, 2005 and has seven points (4g-3a) and 48 penalty
minutes in 22 games for the Mighty Ducks and 17 points (7g-10a) and 21
penalty minutes in 13 games with Portland of the AHL.
Kevin Colley, who was named to his second straight ECHL All-Star
Game in 2003, made his NHL debut with the New York Islanders on Oct. 27,
2005 and he has 33 penalty minutes in eight NHL games while also playing 21
games with Bridgeport of the AHL where he has 10 points (5g-5a) and 60
penalty minutes. The 27-year-old was named the MVP of the 2003 Kelly Cup
Playoffs after scoring 20 points (13g-7a) to lead Atlantic City to the
championship.
Named to the ECHL All-Star Game as a rookie, Mike Bishai made his
NHL debut with Edmonton and had two assists and 19 penalty minutes in 14
games in 2003-04 and has 14 points (6g-8a) in 26 games with San Antonio in
2005-06.
Selected to the All-Star Game as a rookie, Adam Hauser is under
contract to Los Angeles of the NHL and was called up to the Kings on
Thursday. He has played each of the last three years in the AHL and is
14-8-2 with a goals-against average of 2.80 and a save percentage of .911
in 24 games with Manchester.
Named to the 2003 ECHL All-Star Game as a rookie and acquired by the
Minnesota Wild from the Phoenix Coyotes in an offseason trade, Dustin
Wood has played each of the last three seasons in the AHL and has six
points (1g-5a) and 36 penalty minutes in 39 games with Houston.
In his first professional season in 2002-03, Jason Jaffray was voted
as a starter for the first of two consecutive All-Star Games and was voted
First Team All-ECHL and to the ECHL All-Rookie Team while also being named
ECHL Rookie of the Year. He has played in the AHL each of the past three
seasons and has 25 points (5g-20a) in 36 games with Manitoba.
Scott Stirling, who was voted as a starter in the All-Star Game in
2001, 2003 and 2004 and who was named MVP in 2003, was recalled by
Rochester to the AHL and traded to San Antonio where he has a goals-against
average of 2.85 and a save percentage of .916 in seven games.
Selected to the All-Star Game in his rookie season, Mike Smith has
played each of the past three seasons in the AHL while also serving as a
backup for Dallas of the NHL, and he has a goals-against average of 2.47
and a save percentage of .918 in 20 games with Iowa.
Named to the ECHL All-Star Game and the ECHL All-Rookie Team in 2002-03,
Mike Glumac is under contract to St. Louis of the NHL and was named
to the 2006 Canadian AHL All-Star Team on Thursday. He has played each of
the last three seasons in the AHL and has 41 points (19g-22a) in 35 games
with Peoria.
Selected to the All-Star Game in his second professional season, Justin
Morrison has played each of the last four seasons in the AHL and has 14
points (7g-7a) in 24 games for Chicago.
