January 13, 2006 - ECHL (ECHL)
Phoenix RoadRunners News Release
Phoenix, Ariz. - Goaltender Matt Underhill stopped all four RoadRunners shooters in the shootout and Olivier Filion and Ryan Ramsay netted tallies to lead the Alaska Aces to a 2-1 shootout victory over the Phoenix RoadRunners before 4,283 at US Airways Center in ECHL action Friday.
Alaska (27-5-3) opened the scoring at 16:32 of the first period on the power play. Cam Keith centered a pass from the right-wing corner to Barrett Heisten at the top of the crease, and Heisten tipped a backhand shot by RoadRunners goaltender Mike Mole to give the Aces a 1-0 lead.
It would stay that way until the waning minutes of regulation. Off an Alaska turnover in the offensive zone, Jake Riddle pounced on the puck at the right-wing circle and fed a pass to an open Dean Tiltgen in the slot. Tiltgen pushed a wrist shot past Underhill at 16:50 for the equalizer to tie the game at 1-1 and send the contest to overtime.
After a scoreless overtime, Filion gave the Aces a 1-0 advantage in the opening round. Ramsay made it 2-0 with a backhand shot past Mole in the third round to seal the win.
Alaska out-shot Phoenix (10-22-3) 29-20. Mole stopped 28 shots but dropped to 6-16-3 on the season. The RoadRunners went 0-4 on the power play.
Notes: Phoenix is now 1-12 in shootout attempts this season and 0-3 in shootouts overall...The RoadRunners dealt center Chris Hodgson to Bakersfield earlier today for the rights to defenseman Anders Olsson. He has one assist in 23 games this season...Alaska's opening power play goal in the first period snapped a streak of 18 consecutive power plays killed off by the RoadRunners. Phoenix had not allowed a power play goal going back to the 18:19 mark of the first period last Friday in Las Vegas.
