Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
Lansing, MI - For the first time in 10 tries this season the Lansing Lugnuts defeated the Fort Wayne TinCaps, picking up a 7-5 victory in Wednesday night's series opener at Cooley Law School Stadium. Alberth Martinez hit a two-run home run, his first longball in June, highlighting the night offensively for Fort Wayne.
TinCaps starter Walker Weickel labored through the first inning, giving up two runs. Fort Wayne (1-6, 44-32) equaled the score in the top of the second inning, as Tyler Stubblefield tripled home Chris Burke, and Luis Domoromo, who went 0-for-3, used a sacrifice fly to score Stubblefield. Lansing (2-5, 34-42) scored single runs in the third and fourth innings, re-taking the lead, 4-2, at the end of the fourth inning.
Brian Adams knocked in a run in the fifth inning against Lugnuts starter Ben White, who went seven innings and surrendered three runs. Lansing's Christian Lopes doubled to lead off the bottom of the sixth and scored on a Carlos Ramirez double. Weickel was chased from the game one batter later, finishing with 5 1/3 innings under his belt.
Lansing's Ian Kadish (3-2) allowed a two-run home run to Alberth Martinez, which tied the game at five, in the top of the eighth inning. However, the Lugnuts plated two more in the bottom of the eighth against Colin Rea (0-1), to take a 7-5 lead, which held for good.
Game two of the three-game series is scheduled for Thursday night at 7:05. The scheduled starters are Zach Eflin for Fort Wayne and Roberto Osuna for Lansing. The game can be heard on The Fan 1380 and TheFanFortWayne.com.
