Kane County Cougars News Release
GENEVA, IL - Ryan Delgado homered and drove in two runs as the Beloit Snappers earned a hard fought 5-4 win over the Kane County Cougars at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark in Midwest League action on Wednesday afternoon.
Beloit has now won nine straight on the road and four in a row overall as they improve to 48-28 (5-1 in the second half). Kane County continues their slide as they drop to 30-42 (0-6 in the second half).
Each team tallied a run in the first inning, the Snappers thanks to a Renato Nunez RBI single and the Cougars on a run-scoring double by Jeimer Candelario. Gioskar Amaya's solo homer in the second staked Kane County to a 2-1 lead, but starter Vince Voiro (4-2) found a groove after that and fired scoreless ball over the next three innings.
In the fourth inning, the Snappers scored three times off Jose Rosario (0-4) to take a two-run lead. A walk and a wild pitch put a man in scoring position for Delgado (2-3, HR, 2 RBI, 2 runs) and he lined a single into right to knock in the first run. Another wild pitch moved Delgado to second and, following a walk, Christopher Bostick singled through the middle, allowing Delgado to touch home. After the third walk of the inning loaded the bases, Rosario was removed in favor of Justin Amlung, who promply plunked John Wooten, forcing in the final run of the frame.
The score remained 4-2 until the eighth, which is when Delgado rammed one over the left field wall with bases empty for his first homer as a Snapper.
The Cougars mounted a comeback in the bottom of the eighth, scoring one run on a Brad Zapenas double. Bijan Rademacher was the next man up and his RBI single sliced the deficit to one run. That's where the comeback ended, though, as Albert Amora grounded to short for the third out. Dan Vogelbach (4-4, 2B) led-off the ninth with a single, but Matt Olson snared a liner off the bat of the next hitter and stepped on first for a double play. Austin House then struck out Rock Shoulders to end the contest and pick up his first save.
Thursday's game is scheduled to start at 6:30pm. Beloit will throw RHP Derek DeYoung (4-3, 4.31 ERA) against RHP Tayler Scott (4-2, 3.82 ERA).
