Burlington Bees News Release

Andrew Ray went deep for the fifth consecutive game, but the Burlington Bees fell 5-2 to the Cedar Rapids Kernels on Wednesday evening at Perfect Game Field.

If Andrew Ray was on fire prior to tonight's game, then you might need a new word to describe the show that Ray is putting on at the plate. The right-handed batter hit a home run for the fifth game in a row, his 11th of the season, but it was in a losing effort.

Jose Berrios (5-3) was just sensational, delivering a career-high in innings and strikeouts to help the Kernels win their seventh game in a row. He went seven innings and struck out nine batters in one of the more impressive pitching performances that the Bees have seen this season.

The Kernels (46-28, 6-0) got the scoring started in the first when Niko Goodrum doubled off of Pat Lowery (3-4) and came around on a single by Dalton Hicks.

The Bees (27-44, 1-5) evened the score in the third inning after loading the bases with nobody out. Chance Ross grounded into a fielder's choice, which brought home Chevy Clarke. Unfortunately, that was the only run that Burlington could score with the bases loaded and nobody out.

Cedar Rapids took the lead right back in the fourth when Max Kepler went deep for the second game in a row. The Kernels added three more runs in the fifth on a two-run double by Jorge Polanco and a double by Hicks that scored Polanco. Hicks now has a league-leading 71 RBIs.

Ray got a 3-0 fastball in the sixth that he sent over the left field wall for his fifth home run in as many days. Ray now has 11 home runs on the season.

Burlington will try and end Cedar Rapids' six-game winning streak on Thursday night when Tyler DeLoach takes the mound against Christian Powell at 6:35 p.m.
