
Coyle's Career Night Sparks Hot Rods to Win

South Bend, IN - The Bowling Green Hot Rods (4-3, 42-33) used an eleven-run first inning in their 12-2 win over the South Bend Silver Hawks (3-4, 48-28) on Wednesday night at Coveleski Stadium. Tommy Coyle hit a two-run home run and drove home two with a single in the gigantic first inning and finished the contest with a career-high four hits five runs batted in. Sean Bierman allowed two runs in five innings to earn his second consecutive win.
Joet Rickard's leadoff triple set the tone to one of the most productive innings in Hot Rods history, as the team tied the franchise record for most runs scored. Rickard was brought in by a Tyler Goeddel infield single, which was followed by a two-run home run from Coyle. Leonardo Reginatto and Brandon Martin later drove in runs in the inning, as the Hot Rods brought the top of the order to the plate again.
Rickard and Goeddel followed with bases loaded walks. Then, Coyle struck again with a two-run single to notch his third and fourth RBI's of the inning. Justin O'Conner and Reginatto each drove in a run with RBI singles to cap the 11-run outburst. The Hot Rods chased South Bend starter Brad Allen after just one-third of an inning pitched.
The Hot Rods allowed South Bend to score a run in the bottom of the first inning but acquired it right back in the top of the second on an another RBI single by Coyle, whose four hits and five RBI's set career highs and fall each just one shy of tying Hot Rods single-game records for a game. The Hot Rods offense did not score the rest of the night, but Goeddel and Reginatto finished the game with base knocks.
Bierman allowed two runs in five innings on seven scattered hits to earn his second win in as many starts. Jose Molina impressively spun four straight scoreless innings behind Bierman to earn his first save of the season.
The six-game road trips rolls along with the middle game of the three-game set at Coveleski Stadium in South Bend on Thursday night at 6:05 PM CDT. The Hot Rods will start LHP Blake Snell (2-5, 3.65) with South Bend countering with LHP Daniel Watts (9-3, 3.53).
