Great Lakes Loons News Release
EASTLAKE, OH - There seems to be something about Miguel Sulbaran's starts at Classic Park.
Less than two weeks removed from a no-run, three-hit, six-inning performance here on June 14, the 19-year-old Venezuelan lefty was even better Wednesday night in a 2-0 shutout win for the Great Lakes Loons over the Lake County Captains.
Sulbaran (4-2) equaled his career-high with six innings and allowed just two hits - one an infield chopper - and struck out six without allowing a run. Luis Meza followed with one hit allowed over two scoreless innings. Craig Stem recorded a 1-2-3 ninth inning to keep the shutout alive and notch his sixth save of the year.
The Loons have now won 14 of their last 19 and are 5-2 since the all-star break. Great Lakes also is now 11-4 when Sulbaran appears in a contest.
The Loons received all the offense they needed in the sixth against tough-luck loser Luis DeJesus (2-8). James Baldwin led off the frame with a perfectly placed bunt down the third base line. Malcolm Holland responded with a single up the middle. Leo Rodriguez bunted the runners up to second and third. Then Tyler Ogle followed with a single to right-center facing an 0-2 count to drive home Baldwin and Holland for the lone runs of the game.
DeJesus allowed six hits over six innings with no walks and five strikeouts. Luis Morel followed with three scoreless frames in relief.
The Loons and Captains play the second game of a three-game series Thursday morning beginning at 11:00am. The Loons are scheduled to start right-hander Brandon Martinez (0-0, 4.15) against Captains righty Robbie Aviles (1-2, 5.09). The game will be broadcast live on ESPN 100.9-FM and ESPN1009.com.
The Loons are a seventh-year Single-A partner of the Los Angeles Dodgers and members of the Midwest League. For more information about the Loons, visit Loons.com or call 989-837-BALL.
