Albany Devils News Release
Rewind:
Wednesday, Falcons 4 vs. DEVILS 2
Jean-Francois Jacques took it to the Devils again as the Springfield forward had two goals - including the game-winner - as part of a second period that saw the Falcons light the lamp three times. Noah Clarke opened the scoring at 15:08 of the first with his third goal in as many games, but Springfield would go on to score the next three. Barry Tallackson registered a third-period power play goal to pull Lowell within one, but the penalty kill couldn't stop Fredrik Johansson from converting for Springfield to put the game out of reach. The Devils outshot the Falcons 44-30 in the contest.
Friday, WOLF PACK 3 vs. Devils 1
Nicklas Bergfors scored in his return to the line-up and broke a scoreless tie at 15:38 of the second period, but Hartford notched two quick ones to end the frame and claim a lead they would never relinquish. Hugh Jessiman beat Jordan Parise at 18:37 and Nigel Dawes converted on the power play with just 1.7 seconds until intermission to give Hartford a 2-1 edge. Parise made 28 saves in the game.
Saturday, FALCONS 5 vs. Devils 2
Ben Simon and Mathieu Roy each registered a goal and two assists in the Falcons' 5-2 win over the Devils. Simon had a hand in Springfield's first three markers as his team jumped out to a 4-0 lead. Petr Vrana and Olli Malmivaara each got pucks past goalie Jeff Deslauriers, but Lowell would get no closer as Roy completed the scoring with an empty-netter at 19:11.
In the standings
The Devils were defeated in each of their three games this past week and are now in a tie for sixth place in the Atlantic Division with the Worcester Sharks. Lowell and Worcester trail the Manchester Monarchs by four points. At the bottom of the lead pack sit the Portland Pirates, just two points behind the third-place Springfield Falcons. The Providence Bruins still remain atop the division at 40 points, but their cushion over the Hartford Wolf Pack has shrunk to just two.
Coming Up
The Lowell Devils will battle the first-place Providence Bruins twice this week, looking to gain their first victory of the season series. On Wednesday, December 12, the Devils make their first trip to the Dunkin Donuts Center where the Bruins are 9-3-1-0. As good as Providence is at home, they are even better on the road, as they bring a 10-1-1-0 record into Tsongas Arena on Saturday, December 15. The Bruins lead the AHL, scoring 3.68 goals per game, and have ten players with double-digit point totals. Providence leads the season series versu! s Lowell, 2-0-0-0.
In between matches against Providence, Lowell will host the Albany River Rats on Friday, December 14. This will be Albany's last regular season visit to Tsongas Arena this year. The River Rats have claimed the previous two meetings against the Devils. Albany has allowed a league low 2.19 goals per game thanks in part to goalie Michael Leighton, who leads the league in GAA (1.97) and shutouts (5). The River Rats have also notched the second most first period goals of any team in the AHL (32).
