Saturday, December 8, 2007: Aeros 4 - Moose 3 L
For the second consecutive game and fifth consecutive home game over the past three seasons, Manitoba failed to steal two points from Houston, falling 4-3 Saturday night. Two Moose players and two Aeros players posted multi-point games, including Brad Moran with one goal and one assist, as well as Houston's Steve Kelly, who scored two goals for first star honours.
This week, the Moose host the Lake Erie Monsters for the first time ever on Friday and Saturday nights. This weekend's games are the third and fourth of a six-game home stretch that carries the Moose through to the Holiday break.
UPCOMING OPPONENTS
Manitoba and Lake Erie opened their eight-game season series in late November, with the Moose winning the first contest 4-2 on Nov. 18 and the Monsters taking the second game 5-4 in overtime on Nov. 24. Eric Healey leads all Lake Erie scorers with six goals and 15 points in 23 games, while Tyler Weiman and Jason Bacashihua have split Monsters netminding duties, with Weiman earning a 3-6-1 record, 0.921 SV%, and 3.08 GAA and Bacashihua posting a 5-7-1 record, 0.910 SV%, and 3.09 GAA.
MOOSE NOTES
WINNING IN WINNIPEG: By opening up their six-game home-stand with a shootout loss and regulation loss to the Houston Aeros on Dec. 7 & 8, the Moose ended a three-game home winning streak and registered their first consecutive home losses since the club's season-opening weekend vs. Grand Rapids on Oct. 11 & 13/07 (4-2 L; 4-3 OTL). The Moose now hold a better record on the road (8-4-1-0 and .654) than they do at home (6-4-1-1 and .583). Last season, the Moose earned a 25-10-3-2 (.688) record and 55 of 80 possible points at the MTS Centre for the best home showing in franchise history.
A SHOOTOUT SLIP-UP: Friday night's 2-1 loss to Houston marked Manitoba's first loss in three shootout games this season. Prior to the game, the Moose had posted shootout victories over the Rochester Americans on Oct. 19 (6-5) and the Quad City Flames on Oct. 31 (3-2). Including two overtime losses to Grand Rapids (Oct. 13, 4-3) and Lake Erie (Nov. 24, 5-4), this season's Moose squad has two wins and three losses in games decided in extra time. Last season, the Moose posted an extra-time record of seven wins and 12 losses, including four shootout wins and five shootout losses. The most shootout losses the team has ever sustained in a single season was 11 in 2003-04.
TOP LINE TEARS IT UP: After being shutout with the rest of their teammates Nov. 30 at Iowa, Manitoba's top line of Jason Jaffray, Brad Moran, and Jozef Balej have produced 15 of the team's 30 total points in the four games since. Buoyed by five, four, and two-point tallies in this past week's three games, Moran, Jaffray, and Balej have moved up to first, second, and seventh on the Moose leaderboard respectively. In the past seven games, Jaffray now has 10 points (6g + 4a) and Moran has nine points (3g + 6a) as well as a four-game point streak.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINEE
#20 Brad Moran - Centre

This past week, he appeared in all three games for the Moose where he collected a goal and four assists for five points... On Tuesday, Moran collected a pair of second period assists to guide Manitoba to a 4-3 victory... He then had a hand in Manitoba's lone goal in Friday's 2-1 shootout loss to Houston...
