Long Beach Ice Dogs News Release
LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Long Beach Ice Dogs of the ECHL, a proud affiliate of the Boston Bruins, have announced that goaltender Yukata Fukufuji has been assigned to the Long Beach Ice Dogs from the Los Angeles Kings.
Fukufuji, 24, was recalled (emergency basis) by the Los Angeles Kings from the Manchester Monarchs of the American hockey League on Friday. He dressed during Saturday's Kings-Dallas game at the Staples Center and did not play.
The 6-1, 180 pound-native of Tokyo, Japan, has a 3-3-0 record, a 3.19 goals-against-average and a .898 save-percentage in 10 appearances with the Reading Royals (ECHL) this season.
Originally selected by the Kings in the 8th round in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Fukufuji is just the second player born in Japan to ever be drafted (defenseman Hiroyuki Miura was drafted my Montreal in the 11th-round, 260th, overall in the 1992 NHL Entry Draft). Fukufuji has not appeared in an NHL game.
The Ice Dogs continue their four game home stand when they host the Phoenix RoadRunners on Friday, December 22nd at 7:30pm where fans may enjoy the $2 beer garden and $2 hot dogs. The Ice Dogs host the Stockton Thunder on Saturday, December 23rd at 7pm when the Ice Dogs will be giving away an Ice Dogs' holiday ornament. Ten lucky fans will also leave the Long Beach Arena on Saturday with a Play Station 3. AUDIO portion of all games will be available on www.icedogs.com by click on the TEAMLINE logo and VIDEO will be available at all home games for $6.
