Fresno, Calif. - The Fresno Falcons scouting staff has been staying busy throughout the first half of the 2006-2007 season, assisting the team in advance scouting for this year's squad, while at the same time, keeping their eyes open for talent that can help the team in future seasons.

Darcy Walsh, based in Toronto, serves as the Falcons' Head Scout. Walsh focuses on pro scouting, mainly in the American Hockey League, while also scouting major junior talent in the Ontario Hockey League and Canadian college talent in Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS).

"As the second half of the season nears, it is important for us to begin to identify the players who will fit in with the Falcons and contribute to their success in the seasons ahead," Walsh said.

Brian Covert, based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, scouts amateur talent in both CIS and the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. Covert played college hockey with Acadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia.

Kyle Edwards, based in Calgary, focuses on the Western Hockey League. A college teammate of Falcons' head coach Matt Thomas at RIT, Edwards played one season of pro hockey with the Edinburgh Capitals of the British National League in 1999-00. In 37 games, he tallied 13 goals and added 28 assists.

Ray Jacques, based in Boston, is the Falcons' eastern United States scout. Jacques' primary duties include scouting talent at the NCAA level in both Hockey East and the ECAC. He played four seasons of college hockey at the University of Maine, serving as the Black Bears' captain during his senior season in 1984-85. Jacques played professionally with the Erie Blades of the Atlantic Coast Hockey League.

Chuck Mougenel, based in Peterborough, Ontario, scouts the Eastern Conference of the Ontario Hockey League.

Art Thomas, based in Seattle, is the Falcons' western United States scout, tracking talent in the Western Hockey League. Thomas also does some advance scouting work for the Falcons. Thomas played with the San Angelo Outlaws of the Western Professional Hockey League in 1997-98.

"It is important at our level that we have a set of eyes everywhere, and our talented, knowledgeable scouting staff certainly is an asset for us," Falcons head coach Matt Thomas said. "We are grateful to our dedicated scouts who help us get an edge over our competition."

The Falcons are back in action on Friday, as they host the Stockton Thunder for the first time this season at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for all Falcons home games can be purchased at the Save Mart Center Box Office, by phone at (559) 485-8497, on-line at www.ticketmaster.com, or at any TicketMaster outlet.
