Loons Stop Captains 6-4 in 11 Innings

(Eastlake, OH) - Michael Pericht drove home Leon Landry and a second run scored on a wild pitch as the Great Lakes Loons defeated the Lake County Captains 6-4 in eleven innings on Wednesday night.
Ronny Rodriguez doubled home Luigi Rodriguez in the top of the first inning to give the Captains a 1-0 lead. The Captains made it 2-0 in the bottom of the second inning when Carlos Moncrief drove home Henry Dunn with a single. The Loons tied it at 2-2 when Steve Domecus and Nick Akins each collected a RBI in the top of the third inning. The Captains regained the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning when Nick Bartolone scored from third base when Loon starter Tim Sexton threw an errant toss to first base on a pick off throw.
The Loons took the lead in the top of the sixth inning when Jon Garcia scored from third on a wild pitch and Jesse Bosnik singled home Chris Jacobs and the Loons led 4-3. The Captains tied it at 4-4 in the bottom of the ninth inning when Moncrief drove home Aaron Fields with a two out single.
Captains starter J.D. Reichenbach got a no decision working 5.2 innings allowing four runs on eight hits, walking one and striking out five. Nick Sarianides followed Reichenbach and threw 2.1 scoreless innings allowing three hits while striking out two. Dale Dickerson (2-2) took the loss working three innings allowing two runs on four hits, walking two and striking out three.
Loons Starter Tim Sexton did not get a decision either lasting seven innings and allowing three runs, two earned on eight hits, walking one and striking out four. Pete Budkevics (4-3) got the win pitching three innings allowing a run on four hits walking two and striking out five. Bret Montgomery pitched a scoreless eleventh inning to register his third save of the year.
The Captains and Loons play game two of the three game series on Thursday at 7:00 PM with the Captains LHP Kirk Wetmore (3-1, 6.62) taking the mound against RHP Zach Lee (7-3, 3.14). The game can be heard on AM 1330 WELW and on the internet at captainsbaseball.com.
Thursday is Thirsty Thursday, presented by ESPN 850 WKNR and will feature a dime beer Happy Hour from 6 PM to 7 PM and half-price draft beer and soda until 9 PM.
