Denis Savard & Jim Conelison Booked for August 25 Chiefs Game

PEORIA, IL- The Peoria Chiefs have announced additions to the promotional schedule for Thursday, August 25 as Chicago Blackhawks Hall of Famer Denis Savard and National Anthem singer Jim Cornelison will attend the 6:30 p.m. game against the Quad Cities River Bandits. Cornelison will perform the National Anthem while Savard throws out a first pitch and signs autographs. Meanwhile the first 1500 fans through the gates will get a 16 X 20 poster of 2010 Conn Smythe Award winner Jonathan Toews.

Savard, a 2000 inductee into the Hockey Hall of Fame, is third on the Blackhawks career points list with 1088. From 1980-90 and 1994-97 Savard was a center for Chicago notching 369 goals and 719 assists. Overall for his career he scored 473 goals with 865 assists for 1,338 total points in 1,196 games. Savard debuted in Chicago in the 1980-81 season and tallied 28 games with 47 assists. He scored at least 100 points in five seasons for the Blackhawks with a career-high 131 in the 1987-88 season. Savard had a career-high 47 goals in the 1985-86 season to start a three-year streak with at least 40 goals.

Savard was traded by Chicago to Montreal on June 29, 1990 for Chris Chelios and a draft pick and helped the Canadiens to the 1993 Stanley Cup with 16 goals and 34 assists. He played for the Tampa Bay Lightning for parts of two seasons before returning to Chicago on April 6, 1995. Savard retired after the 1996-97 season and his #18 jersey was retired at the United Center on March 19, 1998. After retirement, Savard began coaching with the Blackhawks and was named the interim head coach in November, 2006. He led a young Hawks team to a 65-66-16 record before turning over the reins to Joel Quenneville on October 16, 2008.

Cornelison is in his fourth season as the Blackhawks' full-time National Anthem singer though he first sang for the team at the United Center in 1996. An accomplished opera singer who has performed nationally and internationally, Cornelison has also performed the Star-Spangled Banner for Chicago Bears and Chicago Bulls playoff games. Last season he performed before both Bears playoff games, at the Bradley - Illinois State basketball game in Normal and Game 2 of the Bulls series against Atlanta. As the Blackhawks Anthem singer, Cornelison also sang at the NHL's 2009 Winter Classic as Chicago hosted Detroit at Wrigley Field on January 1, 2009.

Among the other guests throwing out a first pitch at O'Brien Field for Hockey night on August 25 will be Peoria Rivermen Assistant Coach Danny Brooks and Bloomingon Blaze Head Coach Jason Christie. Captain, the Rivermen Mascot will be on hand as well. August 25 is also a Thirsty Thursday with $2.00 16 ounce domestic draft beers and fountain sodas. All fans with a valid college ID get $5 tickets for every Thirsty Thursday game in August.
