August 10, 2011 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Quad Cities River Bandits News Release
The Quad Cities River Bandits bounced back from an early 4-0 deficit to take the first game of the series 12-7 from the Burlington Bees in front of 3,334 fans at Modern Woodmen Park on Wednesday.
Quad Cities fell behind 4-0 in the second inning before scoring a pair of runs in the second when Geoff Klein (2-for-5) hit a two-run homer to cut the lead in half. The Bandits blew the game open in the third inning, sending 13 hitters to the plate and scoring seven runs on five hits. The big blow in the inning came on Chris Edmondson's (2-for-5) two-run double, which gave the Bandits a 5-4 lead. The Bandits never looked back from that point on, cruising to the 12-7 win.
Burlington threatened late when it cut the lead to 10-7 in the eighth inning, but the Bandits tallied two more runs in the bottom of the inning to seal the victory.
Bandit starter Trevor Rosenthal (W, 6-7) pitched six innings and allowed four runs on seven hits. The right-hander also struck out seven in the game on his way to his sixth win. Dean Kiekhefer (S, 5) came into the game in the eighth and pitched 1 2/3 innings, allowing just one hit, to pick up his fifth save of the season.
Rosenthal was opposed by Burlington starter Blake Hassebrock (L, 6-7). The righty went just 2 2/3 innings allowing a season-high nine runs, four earned, on eight hits. Hassebrock struck out two and walked one in the loss.
The Bandits continue the series with the Burlington Bees tomorrow on a Thirst-Day Thursday. Fans will be treated to the Fourth Annual Tattoo Night, presented by the Quad-City Times, at Modern Woodmen Park, where anyone getting a free permanent tattoo of a River Bandits logo from Bill's Garage Tattoo Emporium gets a free ticket to any game this season or next. Miller Park's Famous Klements Racing Sausages will also make an appearance during the game on Thursday. Bandit right-hander Zach Russell (6-8, 3.84) will oppose Bees righty Jonathan Joseph (3-4, 6.42). First pitch is set for 7 p.m. at Modern Woodmen Park in Davenport, Iowa.
