FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Former TinCaps 3B James Darnell made his major-league debut for the San Diego Padres, Sunday at Citi Field against the New York Mets. He became the 102nd Fort Wayne alum to complete the journey to the big leagues.

Darnell, 24, slugged the first home run in Parkview Field history on April 16, 2009. He spent the first half of that season with the TinCaps, batting .329 with seven home runs before a promotion to Advanced-A Lake Elsinore.

After an injury-plagued 2010 season, Darnell got back on track this year batting .317 with 23 homers between Double-A San Antonio and Triple-A Tucson. He was part of the Tucson Padres club which visited Parkview Field for a four-game series this July.

Of the 25 players on the San Diego Padres' active roster, ten have played for Fort Wayne.

The TinCaps continue their seven-game homestand tonight against the Bowling Green Hot Rods (Class-A Tampa Bay Rays). First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m.
