Little Leads the Way in 11-3 Romp of Cubs

April 10, 2005 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

The Albuquerque Isotopes banged out a franchise-best five home runs, including a trio of homers by Mark Little, to power past the Iowa Cubs, 11-3, Saturday night at Isotopes Park. It was the third straight win for the ‘Topes, who are 3-0 for the first time in franchise history.

Little hit a solo shot to lead off the first inning, added another solo blast in the seventh, and capped off his big night with a three-run homer in the eighth to become just the second Isotopes' player to hit three home runs in a single game. The last Albuquerque player to accomplish the feat was Chris Aguila, who did so on July 16, 2004 at Oklahoma. It was the second time Little had hit three homers in a game for his career.

Matt Padgett followed Little in the first inning with a two-run homer to right field that gave the ‘Topes a 5-0 lead. The Isotopes have scored at least one run in the first inning of all three games this year and have out-scored the I-Cubs, 11-4, in the opening frame. The five-run advantage was more than enough support for Albuquerque starter Peter Bauer (1-0), who held the Cubs (0-3) to three runs in five innings.

Iowa closed the gap to 6-3 in the fourth inning, but the Isotopes added a run in the seventh and four in the eighth – including a solo home run by Jason Stokes to right-center field – to cap off the scoring. Iowa starter Sergio Mitre (0-1) took the loss after allowing six runs in six innings of work.

The Isotopes will attempt to complete a four-game sweep of the Cubs Sunday at 1:35 p.m. at Isotopes Park. Right-handed pitcher Frank Castillo is expected to start for Albuquerque. Tickets are currently on sale for the rest of the season at the Isotopes Park Box Office, at local Ticketmaster outlets, Ticketmaster.com, and Ticketmaster by phone at 883-7800.
