Round Rock Express News Release

(ROUND ROCK, TX) – The Omaha Royals pitching staff got off to a strong start in 2005. Starting pitcher, Jimmy Gobble (1-0) combined with four relievers to limit the Express offense to one run on nine hits in the first ever Triple-A game at The Dell Diamond. The Express have yet to win an opening day game in its six seasons.

Express starter, Ezequiel Astacio matched Gobble pitch for pitch through the first four innings. The Express jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning as 2B Brooks Conrad singled in LF Barry Wesson.

The Omaha Royals responded immediately in the top half of the sixth inning as DH Chad Santos led off the inning with an opposite field home run. The big blow in the inning came when LF Matt Diaz hit an opposite field double that scored 3B Joe McEwing and 1B Ken Harvey. The double ended the night for Astacio as Dave Burba came on in relief and was able to escape a bases loaded jam.

The four run sixth ended up being enough as the Omaha Royals were able to hang on for a 4-1 victory.

"It was a well played game all the way around," said Express manager Jackie Moore. Adding "I liked everything about the game other than we lost."

Left hander Wandy Rodriguez will get the start tomorrow night for the Express as he is set to oppose right hander Ryan Jensen. Game time is set for 7:05 PM. The four game series concludes on Sunday with a 2:05 PM start time.
