Round Rock Express News Release
(ROUND ROCK, TX) â The Round Rock Express and the Omaha Royals battled it out in a tightly contested match up. Omaha left fielder Aaron Guiel's solo home run off of Express reliever Mike Gallo in the ninth inning proved to be the game winner. Guiel drove a first pitch breaking ball 425 feet to dead center to put Omaha up 4-3. Closer Byron Embry came on in the ninth to nail down the victory.
Express starter Jared Gothreaux worked six solid innings in his first Triple-A start. Gothreaux was able to escape the second and third innings, despite giving up lead off doubles in each inning. Gothreaux finished the night giving up two runs, one earned on five hits. He struck out one and walked one.
Omaha finally broke through in the third inning when Joe McEwing reached third on a double and an error by LF Barry Wesson. McEwing scored on Aaron Guiel's ground out to second.
The Express had a golden opportunity in the fifth inning but were unable to capitalize on a bases loaded, no outs situation. RF Charles Gipson hit the ball sharply, but right at 3B Denny Hocking who was able to snag the line drive.
Omaha added the second run of the game on a lead off home run by SS Andres Blanco in the top of the sixth inning. The home run was the first for Blanco in 1,112 professional games.
The Express put up their first run of the night in the bottom of the seventh inning. LF Barry Wesson led off the inning with a sharp single to left. He advanced to third on a single by RF Charles Gipson. Wesson scored on a sacrifice fly to center off the bat of Trenidad Hubbard to bring the score to 2-1.
The Express tied the game at 3-3 after a two run eighth. 3B Mike Coolbaugh reached base on a throwing error by SS Andres Blanco to lead off the inning. The next batter, Royce Huffman, was hit by a pitch. Both runners advanced one base with a perfectly executed double steal. C Humberto Quintero scored Coolbaugh on ground out to second base. Todd Self came into the game as a pinch hitter and delivered an RBI single to left scoring Huffman. Self was picked off of second base to end the inning.
The two teams meet tomorrow at 2:05 PM for the final game of the four game series. The Express will start LH Carlos Hernandez and Omaha will counter with RH Danny Tamayo. The Express look to even the series at two games apiece.
