Tucson Sidewinders News Release
Tucson lost leads of 1-0, 3-1, 4-3 and 6-5 Saturday night and dropped a 7-6 game to Salt Lake at Franklin Covey Field. The Sidewinders have lost all three games of the series to the Stingers.
Salt Lake scored two runs without a hit in the bottom of the eighth off Jason Bulger to score the eventual winning runs. Bulger walked Chris Prieto to start the inning. David Matranga dropped down a bunt that Bulger fielded and threw off the shoulder of Matranga for an error. With runners at second and third and no one out, Dallas McPherson lofted a high fly ball to left field that drifted beyond the reach off Scott Hairston and dropped. Hairston was charged with an error as both runners scored.
The Sidewinders got two hits in the ninth before Corey Myers flied to left field to end the game.
Hairston put the Sidewinders on the board first in the top of the first when he connected for a solo home run off Corey Lee. The homer came in Hairston ¬â¢s first at bat of the season after missing the first two games with the flu.
Tucson regained the lead in the top of the sixth when Conor Jackson ¬â¢s two-out double plated Hairston and Carlos Quentin for a 3-1 advantage.
Luke Allen tied the game for the Stingers in the bottom of the inning with a two-run homer off Sergio Lizarraga.
Andy Green put the Sidewinders back in front in the top of the seventh when his two-out double chased home Brian Barden.
The Stingers quickly retaliated with two more runs in the bottom of the seventh. McPherson led off the inning with a long solo home run to tie the game. Nick Gorneault ¬â¢s single plated Jeff Mathis from second with the go-ahead run.
The Sidewinders regained the lead in the eighth when both Brian Barden and Andy Green walked with the bases loaded forcing in runs.
The Sidewinders and the Stingers will finish the four-game series Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. (Tucson time). Phil Stockman will start for Tucson against the Stingers Doug Sessions. The game will live on Cool 1450 AM.
