Sidewinders blast away for first win of the year

Tucson claimed its first win of the season Sunday pounding out 16 hits and scoring 15 runs in a 15-4 win over Salt Lake at Franklin Covey Field.

Scott Hairston produced four hits and scored three runs. Carlos Quentin added a grand slam and finished with two hits, five RBI's and three runs scored. Doug Devore and Sergio Santos each added three-run home runs.

Tucson produced three run innings in both the first and third frames to jump out to an early 6-0 advantage.

Hairston started the Sidewinders three-run first with an RBI double, scoring Andy Green. Conor Jackson and Alan Zinter also added run scoring singles for the early 3-0 lead.

Hairston singled and Quentin doubled to start the third inning. Devore followed with a three-run homer to right, pushing the Tucson advantage to 6-0.

Tucson plated two more runs in the fourth on an RBI single from Green and a sacrifice fly from Quentin.

Santos was the last starter to collect a hit, but he did so in grand fashion in the fifth inning when he smashed a three-run homer to right field, increasing the lead to 11-0.

Phil Stockman earned the win for Tucson allowing two runs in five innings of work. Stockman allowed just one single through four innings before being tagged for a pair of runs in the fifth.

Quentin capped the scoring for the Sidewinders in the eighth inning when he hit a grand slam off Clayton Andrews.

Tucson travels to Colorado Springs Monday to begin a four-game against the Sky Sox weather permitting. Chris Michalak will start for the Sidewinders against Shawn Sedlacek in a 6:05 p.m. (Tucson time). The game will live on Cool 1450 AM.
