ROUND ROCK, Texas â The Omaha Royals jumped out to a three run lead in the first highlighted by a two run homer off of the bat of LF Matt Diaz.
All of the runs in today's game came of the starting pitchers. Express relievers RH Jeremy Griffiths and Chris Fussell combined to throw 6.1 scoreless innings in relief of starter Carlos Hernandez.The outstanding relief effort gave the Express a chance to fight their way back into the game but the Omaha Royal bullpen was able to match the effort by tossing 4.1 scoreless innings.
The highlight of the day offensively came when 2B Brooks Conrad recorded his and the Express' first home run in Triple-A with a blast over the right field wall in the third inning.
The Iowa Cubs come in to town tomorrow for a four game series. Game times are set for 7:05 PM. Iowa was swept in their season opening series in Albuquerque.
RHP Taylor Buchholz is scheduled to pitch for the Express and he will be opposed by Iowa LHP John Koronka.
