Sacramento River Cats News Release
WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Sacramento starter Arnold Leon continued his trend of strong pitching at home, this time going 6.2 innings and giving up one run to power the Cats to a 4-1 victory over the Albuquerque Isotopes on a Thursday night at Raley Field.
The Cats wasted no time in getting on the board early, tallying a run in the first inning off of a sacrifice fly by outfielder Shane Peterson. Sacramento doubled their lead in the next inning when Jemile Weeks was able to bring around Ryan Ortiz with his ninth triple of the season. Justin Sellers got the Isotopes within one in the fourth inning, singling up the middle off of Leon to score Nick Buss from third.
Small ball got the Cats' offense going again in the sixth inning. After a sacrifice bunt from Weeks put Ortiz and Andy Parrino in scoring position, Hiro Nakajima pushed one across with a sacrifice fly deep enough to get Weeks home. Shane Peterson finished the job, bringing around Parrino with an RBI single to striking out one in his 1.0 inning on the mound for his 10th save on the year.
For Leon it was his first win at home as a member of the River Cats. His last home victory came on June 15 in an 8.0 inning performance while on Double-A Midland. The right-hander now carries a 2-2 record and a 4.95 ERA. A 0-for-5 night by Michael Choice officially ended the outfielder's 10 game hitting streak. His season-long streak was 12 games over a stretch dating from June 1-15.
With a 2-for-3 night at the plate outfielder Peterson put up his second multi-hit game in as many games. Over that stretch he is 5-for-7 with a home run, and a double.
The River Cats will play the third edition of their four-game set with the Isotopes on Firework Friday and Swing for the Cure. That night will feature a matchup between left-hander Andrew Werner (9-12, 6.23 ERA and righty Matt Palmer (6-4, 3.83 ERA).
