Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
Utility-player Elian Herrera rejoins Albuquerque today, August 2, after being optioned by the Dodgers on July 31. Catcher Damaso Espino was placed on the disabled list today with a right calf strain. The Isotopes roster now stands at 25 active players.
Herrera will be making his fourth stint of the season with the Isotopes and opened the year with the club. The Dominican has played in 80 games with the Topes hitting at a .290 clip (89-for-307) with nine doubles, six homers and 40 RBI. He also led the club with 27 multi-hit games at the time of his call up to Los Angeles. Herrera has played 15 games in the outfield and the 68 in the infield.
Herrera, 28, has made three trips to the Major Leagues this season. He has two hits in eight at bats (.250) and has started two games in left field for the Dodgers.
Espino, 30, has played 17 games for Albuquerque, starting 16 games at catcher tossing out seven of 21 potential base stealers (33%). The native of Panama is hitting .321 (18-for-56) with five doubles and four RBI since joining the Isotopes on June 23. Espino was signed as a free agent by the Dodgers after beginning the season with the Chicago White Sox Triple-A affiliate, the Charlotte Knights.
The Isotopes conclude their four-game series against the Sacramento River Cats tonight with the first pitch schedule for 8:05 PM MDT. Matt Palmer (6-4, 3.83) is scheduled for Albuquerque against southpaw Andrew Werner (9-12, 5.96). Catch all of the action on 610 AM "The Sports Animal" with Josh Suchon on the call.
