New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release

The New Orleans Zephyrs used a pair of eighth-inning home runs, first a game-tying shot from Kyle Jensen, then a go-ahead two-run blast from Kyle Skipworth, to rally for a 4-1 win over the Colorado Springs Sky Sox on Friday night.

After starting pitchers Brian Flynn and Jeff Manship dueled through seven scoreless innings, the Sky Sox broke through in the eighth against Z's reliever Josh Wall by stringing together three consecutive two-out singles, capped by a blooper from St. Amant's Reid Brignac that fell a few feet inside the foul line in left field to score Ryan Wheeler with the game's first run.

The Zephyrs came back in the bottom of the inning. Jensen sent an opposite-field homer off Rob Scahill over the right field fence to tie the score, and after Nick Green ripped a double to the left-center field gap, Skipworth crushed a two-run homer to right to lift the Zephyrs into the lead.

Jordan Brown then doubled as a pinch hitter, and later scored on a Gil Velazquez sacrifice fly.

Chris Hatcher allowed a two-out single by Jordan Pacheco in the ninth, but got Tim Wheeler to fly out to lock up his Pacific Coast League-leading 29th save of the season and 40th of his Zephyrs career, second-most in club history.

Manship held the Z's to two hits while striking out seven batters and allowing no walks. Flynn limited the Sky Sox lineup to just three knocks and two walks while fanning six.

Flynn, the reigning PCL Pitcher of the Week, has pitched 21 2/3 consecutive scoreless innings, and lowered his ERA to 2.95, third-best in the league.

Wall (2-2) was credited with the win, and Scahill (3-1) was charged with the loss.

The Zephyrs, coming off three wins in four games against the Sky Sox, open a four-game set against the Reno Aces on Saturday at 6 p.m.
