LHP Michael Kirkman to Rehab With Express Tonight

August 2, 2013 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Round Rock Express News Release

ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Texas Rangers announced today that left-hander Michael Kirkman will begin his rehab assignment with the Round Rock Express, starting tonight's game at Fresno.

The southpaw spent the entire season with the Rangers, pitching in 25 games out of the Texas bullpen. He had allowed runs in each of his last three outings before being placed on the 15-day DL retroactive to June 7 with a recurrence of a cutaneous lymphoma located in the area of his right triceps. Kirkman's last outing with the Rangers was on June 6 at Boston when he allowed three runs without recording an out. At the time he was placed on the disabled list, he had compiled a 0-2 record and 8.18 ERA (22.0ip/20er) while notching two saves. On June 12, Kirkman was transferred from the 15-day DL to the 60-day DL. He joins the Express on a major league rehab assignment in which there will be no corresponding roster move.

After this move, the current Express roster sits at 25 active players with one major league rehab and three on the disabled list.

The Express and Grizzlies conclude a four-game set in Fresno tonight at 9:05 p.m. CST. Michael Kirkman (ML Rehab) will make his first rehab start with the Express while Fresno counters with Mitch Lively (4-4, 5.68 ERA).
