Tucson Padres News Release
Four Memphis pitchers limited the Padres to five hits Friday as the Redbirds defeated Tucson 4-2 at AutoZone Park. The Redbirds won the series three games to one and held Tucson to seven runs and a .182 average in four games.
Kolten Wong's two-out RBI single in the third put the Redbirds ahead 1-0. The Padres responded in the fourth to tie the game at one thanks to Gregorio Petit's RBI double off the left field wall. Tucson had a chance to score more runs with two outs in the inning, but Redbirds outfielder Justin Christian made a sliding catch in centerfield to end the threat. Audry Perez regained the lead for Memphis in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI single up the middle.
Chris Swauger's first home run of the season extended the Redbirds' advantage to 3-1 in the sixth. The Padres came within one run of the lead in the seventh after Daniel Robertson hit a two-out RBI single to score Chris Robinson from third base. Memphis added a run in the eighth on Mike O'Neill's RBI infield single, his second hit of the game.
Carlos Martinez earned his fourth win for the Redbirds after scattering two hits, one run and four walks in five innings. Reliever Brandon Kloess lost his fifth game after yielding four hits, one run and one walk in two innings. Tucson starter Burch Smith went three innings, allowing one run on four hits, while striking out four. Padres starting pitchers surrendered only five runs in the four-game series in Memphis.
