Lexington Legends News Release

Jeff Icenogle pitched six and two-thirds shutout innings to lead the Lexington Legends to their sixth win in seven games and second consecutive shutout victory. Icenogle surrendered three hits and three walks while striking out eight to win his second game of the season. Kyle Miller extended his hitting streak to six-game with a 2-4 performance, including two RBI as the Lexington Legends defeated the Delmarva Shorebirds 5-0. Lexington started the scoring with a single run in the first inning. Eric Taylor walked with one out and moved to second on an errant pickoff throw from Luis Noel. Brian Pellegrini then singled to left, moving Taylor to third. Kyle Miller followed Pellegrini with a single of his own, driving in Taylor. Max Sapp then grounded into a double play to end the scoring threat. Lexington added a single run in the third after Taylor doubled with two outs in the inning. Pellegrini followed Taylor's double with a single to left for his 46th RBI of the season. The Legends piled on with two runs in the fourth inning to jump out to a four-run lead. Max Sapp walked to lead off the inning and moved to second base on a ground out from Russell Dixon. Brandon Barnes then drove Sapp home with a single to center field and later scored on a fielding error from second baseman Ryan Adams. Lexington added their fifth and final run in the seventh off the Delmarva bullpen. Taylor slugged his second double of the game with one out and then stole third base for his twentieth steal of the season. Brian Pellegrini struck out swinging, but Kyle Miller made the Shorebird pay with a single to right field for his second RBI of the game. Miller is now 11-24 in six games with the Legends. The infielder has recorded at least one hit in every game, and two hits in all but one game. Miller has added two home runs and 10 RBI during his brief stint with the Legends. Icenogle earned his first win since May 30 with his six and two-thirds shutout innings. He was winless in his previous nine starts, despite strong pitching during July. The start was Icenogle's fourth straight appearance in which he pitched at least five innings and surrendered two or fewer runs. Mike Koons and Fernando Abad pitched the final two and one third innings to close out the win. The two teams meet in game two of the four-game set Saturday at 7:05 p.m.
