
Captains over'Power'ed in loss

Lake County Captains News Release
(Eastlake, OH) - Eric Farris had three hits including two, two run doubles and Lee Haydel scored three runs as the West Virginia Power defeated the Lake County Captains 8-1 on Friday. This was the Captains sixth straight loss which is a season-high. The Power upped their second half league-leading record to 25-9.
The Power put up four runs in the third inning against Captains starter Ryan Morris. With runners at second and third and one out, Eric Farris doubled to left to plate both of the runners. After wild pitch moved Farris to third, Logan Schafer walked. Eric Fryer reached on an error scoring Farris and Schafer scored on a single by Caleb Gindl and it was 4-0.
The Power made it 6-0 in the fourth inning on another two run double by Farris. The Captains got on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning when they loaded the bases with no one out against Power starter Dan Merklinger. They were only able to score one run on a ground out by Ron Rivas and it was 6-1. The Power added a run in the sixth inning on an RBI single by Schafer and it was 7-1. The Power tacked on an unearned run in the ninth to end the scoring at 8-1.
Morris took the loss and saw his record fall to 7-4. He went 5+ innings and allowed seven runs, six earned on seven hits, walking three and striking out three. Paolo Espino relieved Morris with two on and no outs in the sixth inning and pitched two scoreless innings. Jonathan Holt pitched a scoreless eighth inning and Gary Campfield pitched the ninth and allowed an unearned run. Dan Merklinger went six innings for the Power and allowed one run on four hits, walking one and striking out six and upped his record to 4-7. Reed Dickert went the final three innings and picked up his second save.
The Captains and Power continue the series on Saturday at 7:05 PM as the Captains send LHP Ryan Miller (7-5, 2.56) to the mound for the Captains against the Power's RHP Evan Anundsen (9-4, 3.68). All Captains games can be heard on AM 1330 WELW, WELW.COM or CAPTAINSBASEBALL.COM.
Saturday is Christmas in July at the ballpark. The first 1,000 fans will also receive a mini bobblehead of Pauley Perch who is featured in the Captains Fish Race promotion presented by National City. Saturday will also feature a post game fireworks extravaganza.
Sunday is a special 7:05 PM starts and it's a Plevin and Gallucci Family Fun Day where fans can meet Captains players prior to the game and get autographs and kids can run the bases after the game presented by Andrews Osborne Academy. The will be a post game fire works show on Sunday night as well.
Tickets for all Captains home games including the 2008 SAL Playoffs are on sale at the Classic Park box office, by phone at 440-954-WINS (9467) or at captainsbaseball.com. Tickets for the Playoffs remain the same as regular season game tickets, $9 reserved seat, $7 bleachers, juniors, and seniors, $6 lawn. Lawn seats for the Playoffs will only be sold once the reserved seats and bleachers are sold out. The $7 group rate will still apply to groups of 20 or more
