SAVANNAH, Ga. - First baseman Jose Jimenez has been sent to the Short Season Brooklyn Cyclones, the New York Mets announced today. The Bonao, D.R. native was leading Savannah in home runs, RBI and extra-base hits. Jefferies Tatford has been called up from Brooklyn to replace Jimenez.

Jimenez, who was hitting .478 over his last five games with two home runs and seven RBI, had raised his average up to .253 courtesy of a six-game hitting streak before being sent to the Cyclones. He played in 90 games for Savannah, hitting .253 with 11 home runs and 48 RBI.

Tatford, 23, was drafted in the 15th round of the 2007 draft out of the University of Louisiana (Lafayette). In 28 games with the Cyclones last season, Tatford hit .169 with one home run and seven runs batted in. The first baseman played in 15 games for the Cyclones this season, hitting .192.

In other Mets' minor league organization moves, former Savannah southpaw starter Mike Antonini was called up to Double-A Binghamton today. After being called up to St. Lucie, Antonini flourished; going 4-0 with a 1.84 ERA in seven starts with the Mets. In his last start for St. Lucie, the Drexel Hill, Penn. native pitched a seven-inning, complete game one-hitter against Lakeland. In Binghamton, Antonini will join former Sand Gnat Tobi Stoner, who was promoted to Double-A earlier this year.

Savannah opens up an eight-game homestand tonight at 7 p.m. versus Asheville. It is Bluffton/Hilton Head Community Night presented by St. Joseph's/Candler. Postgame fireworks will follow the game courtesy of KIX96. For tickets and more information, visit www.sandgnats.com or call 912.351.9150.
