Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
Lakewood, NJ - The Intimidators (16-15) had three pitchers combine on a two-hitter in a 4-0 win over Lakewood (21-13). Starter Miguel Socolovich tossed 5.1 no-hit innings en route to six shutout frames and his fourth win (4-4) of the season. Tyson Corley (1.0IP) and Leroy Hunt (2.0IP) finished off the shutout victory. It was the team?s first shutout since May 13th against Delmarva.
Kannapolis started the offense with three runs in the third inning. Oney Guillen walked with one out. Sergio Morales drove in Guillen with a RBI double. Two batters later, Jim Gallagher brought in Morales with a RBI single. After two more batters, Brent Morel?s RBI single scored Gallagher to make it 3-0.
In the fourth inning the Kannapolis offense continued with Guillen's two-out walk. After a walk to Sergio Morales, Eduardo Escobar blooped a single to right field to plate Guillen for a 4-0 lead.
Miguel Socolovich's bid for a no-hitter was thwarted in the sixth inning with one out when Joel Naughton lifted a single into shallow left field. Socolovich finished the game with six shutout innings giving up one hit and two walks while striking out three. The only other hit was a double off of Tyson Corley from Matt Rizzotti.
The two-hitter came on the heels of Lakewood being no-hit by Asheville in the team's last game.
Offensively, Jim Gallagher went 3-for-5 with a double, a run scored and a run driven in for the Intimidators.
The Intimidators continue the eight-game roadtrip Saturday night in Lakewood against the BlueClaws. Coverage starts at intimidatorsbaseball.com with Dan Bumpus at 6:50pm for a 7:05pm first pitch. Kannapolis is back home August 2nd against Hagerstown to begin an eight-game homestand. For tickets call 704-932-FANS or go online to intimidatorsbaseball.com.
