Hagerstown Suns News Release

HAGERSTOWN, MD - Brad Meyers and Dan Leatherman combined brilliant pitching performances as the Hagerstown Suns (16-18) defeated the Greensboro Grasshoppers (13-21) on Friday night at Municipal Stadium.

The Suns Meyers (7-4) cruised through six and two thirds innings and has won five of his last seven decisions, including his last two.

Meyers allowed one run on three hits and continued to fool the Grasshopper offense as he struck out six.

The Suns offense was quiet but gave Meyers enough run support for the win. Mark Gildea led off the game with a single to center field and Jesus Valdez brought him in with a RBI double off the wall to give the Suns an early 1-0 lead.

Stephen King grounded his 18th double of the season down the third base line to lead off the second inning. Garrett Bass then knocked him in with a single off Greensboro starter Kyle Kaminska (5-5).

Meyers walked Matt Dominguez in the seventh and Torre Langley cut the score in half with a deep two-out RBI double to center, just off the glove of Gildea.

Dan Leatherman came on to relieve Meyers in the seventh with two outs and retired Jameson Smith on a ground ball to first basemen Tim Pahuta to keep the Suns ahead.

Greensboro reliever Jay Voss pitched two innings and Peter Andrelczyk tossed one frame as they kept the Suns to two hits.

Leatherman continued his outing as he shut down the Grasshopppers with two and a third perfect innings to pick up his third save of the year.

The Suns continue their four game series against the Grasshoppers on Saturday at 7:05.
