Catfish Drop Series Opener

Columbus, GA - The Columbus Catfish (18-13) dropped their series opener to the Greenville Drive (15-18) by a final score of 4-1.

The Drive scored early, as they put up 3 runs in the 2nd inning. David Marks hit a ground-rule double to left-center that drove in Oscar Tejeda, who had singled. Che-Hsuan Lin then reached on an error by Chase Fontaine to drive in Juan Apodaca. Greenville would score their final run of the inning when Jason Ragan uncorked a wild pitch to score Marks. Greenville added one more in the top of the 4th when Manny Arambarris homered to left field. The Catfish scored their only run in the 4th when Stephen Vogt singled to left field to score Greg Sexton, who had doubled.

Che-Hsuan Lin led the offensive attack for the Drive, as he went 3-5 with a stolen base. He was the only Greenville played to have more then 2 hits, as they received a fine outing from South Atlantic League All-Star Felix Doubront. Doubront fired 5 innings, allowing only 3 hits and 1 earned run while walking 2 and striking out 7 to pick up his South-Atlantic League best 11th win. Kyle Fernandes fired 3 shutout innings of relief and Felix Ventura recorded his 14th save of the season.

The Catfish were able to manage only 3 hits. Stephen Vogt led the Catfish offense, going 1-1 with 2 walks and a run batted in. Jason Ragan took his 8th loss of the season and has not won at home since April after throwing 3 and 2/3 innings allowing 8 hits and 2 earned runs. The bullpen was strong for the Catfish however, firing 5 and 1/3 shutout innings, allowing only 1 hit and 1 walk.

The Catfish return to action tomorrow night against these same Greenville Drive with first pitch scheduled for 7:00. The pitching match-up is scheduled to be Alex Cobb against Jose Capellan.
