SYRACUSE, NY - Daniel Palka's grand slam in the bottom of the eighth inning broke the tie and helped propel the Syracuse Mets to a 5-3 victory over the Buffalo Bisons on Friday night at NBT Bank Stadium.

The Mets used the long ball to their advantage in the fourth game of the series. They opened the scoring with a solo homer by Dominic Smith in the bottom of the first inning to enjoy a 1-0 lead. Smith's eighth Triple-A homer of the season came off of Hayden Juenger. It was the second batter of the game for Syracuse but would be the only offense they would muster until late in the game.

The Herd pitching staff did not allow Syracuse to move a runner into scoring position until the eighth. Four Bisons pitchers combined to allow just three hits and two walks through the first seven innings against the Mets.

Nate Pearson worked a scoreless bottom of the third inning for his second outing of the series and third on a Major League injury rehab assignment. Nick Allgeyer pitched a pair of scoreless innings as well.

Buffalo's first run of the game came in the top of the fourth with John Aiello at the plate. Rafael Lantigua hit an infield single and moved to third on an L.J. Talley double. The Bison infielder scored thanks to a wild pitch with Aiello at the plate, tying the game 1-1. Talley's double extended his hitting streak to seven straight games in the process.

Travis Jankowski led off the bottom of the eighth thanks to an error that was followed by back-to-back infield singles off of Shaun Anderson. Palka's 26th home run of the season cleared the bases to give him 79 RBIs on the season. It was his only hit of the night for the Mets that gave the team a 5-1 lead.

However, Buffalo's offense went to work against Yoan Lopez in the top of the ninth to help put the game-tying run on base. Each of the first five batters reached in the inning, including four straight base hits.

Trevor Schwecke's RBI single to right field scored Aiello and brought Buffalo within three, 5-2. It was followed by an Eric Stamets RBI double to chase Lopez in a 5-3 game. R.J Alvarez came out of the Syracuse bullpen and induced a ground ball to third that produced a double play. He then recorded the final out of the game to pick up his second save of the season.

The loss stopped Buffalo's three game winning streak. The same two teams will meet on Saturday night for the fifth game of the six-game series in Syracuse. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
