Durham Bulls News Release
Charlotte, NC - Oscar Colas connected for a tie-breaking home run with one out in the eighth to lift Charlotte past Durham 5-3 on Saturday night at Truist Field.
Durham (18-26) led 3-2 entering the frame, but the Knights (18-25) built their game-winning against reliever Enmanuel Mejia (L, 1-2). A single, groundout and single tied the game before Colas peppered a 3-2 pitch from Mejia over the right-centerfield wall for a 5-3 advantage. Charlotte closer Justin Anderson retired the Bulls in order in the ninth to earn his sixth save.
Durham took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Kameron Misner came home ono a Brandon Lowe single. Misner stroked the game's third pitch for a triple to right-center. After Charlotte tied the game against Mason Montgomery in the third, Durham mounted a two-out, none-on rally for two runs. Ruben Cardenas and Yu Chang doubled, followed by a single up the left field line by Jake Mangum for a 3-1 lead.
Charlotte scored a run in the fourth against Montgomery, but for the second straight inning left the bases loaded. The Knights stranded 12 baserunners in the game, including nine in Montgomery's four innings.
Montgomery labored through four innings, permitting four hits and six walks, but limited the Knights to just two runs. Antonio Jimenez tossed two hitless innings before turning the ball over to Mejia.
Charlotte leads the six-game series 3-2 with Sunday's finale remaining.
Carlos Garcia (1-1, 4.70) is slated to open Sunday's game for Durham against Charlotte's Johan Dominguez (3-2, 5.18) at 1:05 PM ET.
The Bulls return home Tuesday, May 21 against the Memphis Redbirds to commence a six-game series.
