Charlotte Knights News Release
(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) -- In 2023, Chad Kuhl was at the top of his game. Pitching at the highest level as a member of the Washington Nationals, he was living his dream. And then, he stepped away.
Chad's wife Amanda was diagnosed with breast cancer last year. Chad put his family first. He walked away.
On Friday, at the Charlotte Knights 18th Annual Pink Knights game - which honors Breast Cancer Awareness -- Chad was the starting pitcher. The Knights dropped the game to the Bulls by a score of 10-5 at Truist Field in Uptown Charlotte on Friday. For Chad - and Amanda - the game meant so much more.

Wearing a Breast Cancer Awareness jersey with the names of those who have fought the disease, Chad Kuhl pitched in front of survivors, fans, family and more. His wife Amanda and son Hudson were there to cheer him on. Over 7,000 fans were, too. It was special.
Kuhl pitched four strong innings on Friday night before the rain halted the game. At 8:02 p.m., with both teams tied at 4-4, the game went into a rain delay. After one hour and 29 minutes, the two teams took the field and the game was resumed. The Bulls scored six more runs along the way, including five runs in the sixth inning to go on for the win.
Charlotte RHP Touki Toussaint (1-1, 8.53) was saddled with the loss after he gave up five runs (four earned) in the sixth inning. The Bulls broke the game open in the sixth with help from Junior Caminero, who doubled home two runs.
Offensively, the Knights were led by catcher Chuckie Robinson, who had two hits and two RBI. Third baseman Wilmer Difo and left fielder Mark Payton chipped in with two hits apiece for the Knights in the game four loss. The two teams are now even in the series, 2-2.
The Knights will continue the six-game homestand against the Durham Bulls (Triple-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays) on Saturday night. The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad and long-time broadcaster Mike Pacheco will have the call on www.CharlotteKnights.com beginning at 6:00 p.m. First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m. on Saturday and Dick Cooke will join Matt and Mike on My 12 WMYT.
