Gwinnett Stripers News Release

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Luken Baker homered twice, and both Jose Fermin and Matt Koperniak also went deep as the Memphis Redbirds (23-21) handed the Gwinnett Stripers (21-23) a 6-1 loss on Saturday night at AutoZone Park.

Decisive Plays: Back-to-back homers by Fermin and Baker off AJ Smith-Shawver (L, 1-2) gave the Redbirds a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning. Phillip Evans answered with a solo shot (4) of his own in the top of the fifth, cutting the deficit to 2-1 for the Stripers. Baker's second homer of the night - a two-run clout off Smith-Shawver in the sixth - built the Memphis lead to 4-1. Jared Young added an RBI single in the sixth and Koperniak clubbed a solo homer in the eighth to make it 6-1.

Key Contributors: Forrest Wall led off the game with a double (1-for-2), but it was just one of three hits on the night. Evans (1-for-2, homer, RBI) and Alejo Lopez (1-for-3) had the others. For Memphis, Baker went 2-for-4 with two homers and three RBIs to back Adam Kloffenstein (W, 1-4), who delivered a quality start (6.0 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 SO).

Noteworthy: Wall's leadoff double extended his on-base streak to 14 games and was his eighth hit leading off a game this year. Eli White saw his nine-game hitting streak snapped but drew a walk to extend his on-base streak to 10 games. Smith-Shawver took the loss despite season-highs in innings (5.1) and strikeouts (8).
