Buffalo Bisons News Release

Chris Nelson's two-run homer in the third inning lifted the Syracuse Chiefs to 7-5 victory over Buffalo on Tuesday night at Coca-Cola Field.

Buffalo took a 2-1 lead at the end of the first inning with the help from Melky Mesa. However, the Chiefs would answer in the second with a sacrifice fly to left field to tie the game.

In the third inning, Nelson hit a two-run homer to left field to put Syracuse on top 4-2. The Bisons cut the Chiefs' lead to one run in the fourth when a ground out from Dalton Pompey scored Caleb Gindl. The Chiefs added two unearned runs in the seventh on a pair of passed balls by Sean Ochinko.

The Herd rallied in the eighth inning with an RBI double from Gindl and an RBI single from Ochinko. Syracuse added an insurance run in the ninth by an RBI-single from Jayson Werth, which gave the Chiefs a 7-5 victory.

On rehab assignment with Buffalo, Aaron Sanchez pitched relief in the seventh as he tries to head back to the Blue Jays. Pitching relief on Tuesday night was different for Sanchez. "It's different. You're facing three or four hitters instead of a lineup three or four times. It's about getting early outs and outs as fast as you can and tonight I just really didn't do that." The righty threw 24 pitches in 2/3 of an inning. Sanchez gave up one hit, issued two walks and struck out one. Two runs scored, but both were unearned off passed balls.

"He started out with good command it kinda left him a little bit there," Allenson said of Tuesday's outing. "He probably needs to back off a little bit and work ahead there. I've had guys down here on rehab who didn't do very well and went up and did real well. It's a different animal up there."

Buffalo looks to bounce back as they continue their four-game series against Syracuse on Wednesday at 7:05. LHP DANIEL NORRIS is scheduled to start for the Herd.

BISONS NOTES:

Caleb Gindl had a great outing for Buffalo on Tuesday night. In his role as DH, Gindl went 3-3 with two singles, a double and two RBI.
