Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
LHP Anthony Vasquez allowed one run over six innings of work as the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (43-54) snapped a two-game skid with a 5-1 win over the Toledo Mud Hens (42-55) on Tuesday afternoon at Coca-Cola Park.
Vasquez (6-3) gave up the one run on five hits while walking one and fanning two in 6.0 IP.
In the top of the third, the Mud Hens took a 1-0 lead as Trayvon Robinson led off with a double, moved to third on an infield single and scored on Josh Wilson's sac fly.
Chase d'Arnaud's two-run shot in the home half of the same frame gave the Pigs a 2-1 lead. It was d'Arnaud's third home run of the season.
The IronPigs extended the lead to 5-1 with three runs in the fifth as d'Arnaud (2-4, 2B, HR, 3 RBI, 2 R) and Erik Kratz (3-3, 2 2B, RBI, 2 R) each plated a run with an RBI double and Aaron Altherr came through with an RBI infield single which allowed d'Arnaud to score. Kratz was making his return to Lehigh Valley after playing in 143 games with the team from 2011-13.
Mud Hens starter Thad Weber (6-6) gave up the five runs on eight hits to go along with eight strikeouts over six innings of work.
Toledo had two on with two outs in the top of the sixth but Vasquez was able to strike out Daniel Fields and end the inning.
RHP Juan Gutierrez (2.0 IP, K) and LHP Adam Loewen (1.0 IP, 2 K) combined to toss three perfect frames of relief for Lehigh Valley.
The series continues on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. as LHP Jesse Biddle (1-0, 6.75) will be on the bump for the IronPigs against fellow southpaw Kyle Ryan (0-7, 4.66). ---
