July 21, 2015 - International League (IL1)
Norfolk Tides News Release
Norfolk used home runs from Sean Halton and Henry Urrutia and a strong outing from Mike Wright in a 12-2 win over the Pawtucket Red Sox Tuesday night at Harbor Park.
The Tides wasted little time in jumping out to an early lead, as Norfolk batted around and scored three runs in the first inning against Keith Couch (4-9). The Tides plated four more off of Couch in the second frame, with Halton's three-run blast to deep left field highlighting the inning. Urrutia continued the offensive onslaught one inning later, as his two-run homer to straightaway centerfield extended Norfolk's lead to 9-0.
Halton now has three home runs and 18 RBI over his last 19 games, while Urrutia has hit .353 (33-93) with 11 RBI and 11 multi-hit games over his last 21 contests.
The offensive outburst was more than enough for Mike Wright, who upped his record to 7-0 after allowing three hits and two walks over 6.1 innings of work. Wright struck out one and threw 66 of his 101 pitches for strikes as he lowered his ERA to 2.66 in 11 outings (10 starts) with Norfolk this season. Over his last 18 outings (17 starts) with the Tides, Wright is now 11-2 with a 1.84 ERA (23 ER, 112.1 IP), 84 hits and 87 strikeouts.
Christian Walker doubled twice as part of a three-hit night, while Rey Navarro added three singles and two runs scored. Michael Almanzar and Julio Borbon each contributed two RBI in the win, as Norfolk set a season-high with 12 runs scored.
Humberto Quintero spoiled Norfolk's shutout bid with a two-run homer off of Andy Oliver in the ninth inning.
With the win, Norfolk improved to 22-11 against the IL North division this season and upped its record to 54-41 - a half-game behind Charlotte in the IL South division.
The two clubs continue their four-game series Wednesday night at Harbor Park, with first pitch slated for 7:05. Knuckleballer Eddie Gamboa (7-6, 3.48) will make the start for Norfolk, while Pawtucket is scheduled to counter with right-hander Joe Kelly (1-1, 2.84).
