Normal CornBelters News Release
NORMAL - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, are proud to host a pre-game concert by Larry Gatlin on Friday, September 2 at 6:00pm. The CornBelters will be back at the Corn Crib on Saturday, July 30, at 7pm, to open a three-game series against Gateway Grizzlies (State Farm Starstruck Saturday presents Dawn Wells / Boy Scout & Cub Scout Campout).
In 1972, Larry signed a solo deal with Monument Records and invited his brothers to sing backup on his first two albums, The Pilgrim (1974) and Rain Rainbow (1975). The Pilgrim scored Gatlin his first hit, "Sweet Becky Walker", and the next year "Broken Lady" was #1 on the charts. All three brothers were inducted into the Grand Ole Opry in 1976. The 1977 album High Time introduced the #1 hit "I Just Wish You Were Someone I Love." In 1979, the brothers decided to become an official trio. Over the course of the next decade, a few of their Top 40 hits included "Denver," "She Used To Be Somebody's Baby," "I Don't Want To Cry," "Statues Without Hearts," "The Lady Takes The Cowboy Every Time," and "Talkin' To The Moon." In 1979, Larry won the ACM's Top Male Vocalist, the brothers' album Straight Ahead won Album of the Year, and "All The Gold In California" won Single of the Year. The Gatlin Brothers are currently traveling and performing in "The Gatlin Brothers Never Ending Reunion Tour" around the country.
Larry Gatlin's solo performance at the Corn Crib will begin at 6:00pm on Friday, September 2. He will also perform the National Anthem before the CornBelters game, which is set to begin at 7:00pm against the Florence Freedom. The first 100 fans to purchase four or more Box Seat tickets at regular price that day will receive a $10 Qik-n-EZ gift card.
