Grizzlies Score 17 in Win Over the Otters

EVANSVILLE, IN - Joe Agreste drove in six runs and the Gateway Grizzlies outslugged the Evansville Otters 17-10 on Wednesday night at historic Bosse Field. The 17 runs for Gateway were the most they have scored all season. The Grizzlies knocked out 16 hits.

Gateway (26-34) took a 2-0 second inning lead with a Brian Harris two-run single.

Evansville (22-39) wasted no time take over the lead, scoring five runs on just one hit in the second. Gateway starter Ryan Juarez walked three batters and the Harris committed two errors at shortstop in the inning. Joe Spiers provided the big blow in the inning with a three-run homer, his fourth of the season.

The Grizzlies regained the lead with a four-run third inning. Joe Agreste drove in a run with a single and Landon Hernandez hit a three-run blast for his eighth homer of the season.

Gateway tacked on three more runs in the fourth inning. Charlie Lisk drove in two with a double and Agreste recorded an RBI groundout.

Gateway got a home run from Brandon Peters in the sixth, a Peters RBI single in the seventh and a Logan Parker RBI single in the seventh as well.

The Grizzlies weren't done yet though. Joe Agreste notched a grand slam in the ninth inning to get Gateway to 17 runs. The grand slam was the second of the season at Bosse Field for Agreste.

Six different Grizzlies had multi-hit games with Peters and Agreste leading the way. Peters went 3-for-5 with a homer and two RBI. Agreste went 3-for-6 with a grand slam and six RBI.

Juarez (2-1) got the win for Gateway. Juarez went 5 2/3, giving up five earned runs. The rookie has now won his last two starts.

The Grizzlies resume their six-game road trip with game two against the Evansville Otters on Thursday night. Rookie Blake Barber (3-2) gets the start for Gateway in game two. First pitch is set for 6:35 CT.
