Last Time Out.

The Traverse City Beach Bums (31-29) scored four runs in the third and six more in the fifth to put the Joliet Slammers (33-26) away by a final score of 10-0 Tuesday night. Starter Ryne Miller walked the lead-off man in the third and gave up a single to John Parham. A hit by pitch, a walk, and another hit by pitch made it 2-0 Traverse City. One out later a fielder's choice scored another run and Miller continued to have issues with his control as he uncorked a wild pitch to make it 4-0 Traverse City. After an easy fourth inning, the Beach Bums chased Miller in the fifth. Zack Pace walked and Matt Brown singled on a hit-and-run to start the inning, putting runners at the corners. One out later another walk loaded the bases and Jose Vargas singled in two runs and it was 6-0. Jeff Flag proceeded to put the game completely out of reach with a grand slam and that was it for Miller and the Slammers.

For Starters.

Andrew Moss' last start came against the Crushers and it was a rough one as he walked a season high six batters in three and a third innings. He gave up three runs; all earned, in a no-decision. Moss did pitch well the first time he faced the Crushers back on May 29 as he went seven and a third innings, three runs, two earned, on only two hits. The Cardinals made Moss their 35th round draft pick in 2009. The Lincoln University product has excelled at multiple levels in affiliated baseball. Moss' strikeout to walk ratio has been stellar, including 61 K's to only 23 BB's in 2010 with the low-A Batavia Muckdogs. He has a career 11-5 record with a 3.15 ERA in the minor leagues. He started 2011 with the Quad City River Bandits of the Midwest League before signing with the Slammers.

Back and forth we go.

The Slammers have alternated between wins and losses for eight straight games.

Opening act.

Joliet is 13-7 in series openers this season.

Holding on.

The Slammers have been in first place by themselves every day since the end of play on July 8. They had not held first place by themselves at all before then.

Leading after six.

The Slammers are almost unbeatable with a record of 23-1 when leading after six innings.

The team triple crown.

Erik Lis leads the Slammers in batting average (.307), Home Runs (11) and RBI (47).

Give me some relief!

In 18 appearances, Relievers Jeremy Tietze and Chuck Lukanen have combined to go 4-0 with a 0.00 ERA in 20 innings in the month of July.

Excellent Estand.

Over the team's last 10 games Sean Estand is hitting .378.

July is hot.

The Slammers are 14-8 in July, the second best record in the Frontier League behind only the River City Rascals (16-5). The Slammers offense has also been heating up with the weather-they are hitting .280 as a team in their last ten games.

Pitching is the key.

The Slammers have the best team ERA in the East Division at 3.76. The bullpen has been especially good, compiling an ERA of 2.83. In addition they've held opponents to a Frontier League low batting average of .242.
