Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release
WORCESTER, Mass. - Tom Kuhnhackl's power play tally with 39.6 seconds left in regulation was part of a two-goal performance that helped the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins to a 3-2 win against the Worcester Sharks at DCU Center.
Heading into the third period down by a score of 1-0, Kuhnhackl pulled Wilkes-Barre/Scranton even at 1:48, taking an Andrew Ebbett pass from the goal line and beating Sharks goalie Harri Sateri with a wrist shot from the low slot.
Just over two minutes later, Worcester regained its edge as defenseman Sena Acolatse circled out from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton net and found John McCarthy alone in front for the easy tap-in and a 2-1 lead.
The score would hold until the 12:45 mark of the third when Mike Carman flipped a circle-to-circle pass that Ebbett gathered on the left hashmarks and ripped a shot under the crossbar.
With 2:20 left in regulation, the Penguins would hop on the man-advantage after Worcester defenseman Matt Tennyson was whistled for holding. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton capitalized for the game-winner as Brendan Mikkelson had his point shot blocked in front, but the carom came right to Kuhnhackl to deposit past Sateri.
The Sharks went ahead, 1-0, at 9:27 of the first when Rylan Schwartz squirted a pass from the far boards that Freddie Hamilton gathered at the faceoff dot and whipped a shot over the shoulder of Peter Mannino.
Mannino, who made his first start of the season for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, turned aside 28-of-30 shots for the victory. Sateri made 20 saves on 23 shots for the Sharks.
The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins complete their three-game, three-day weekend on Sunday, Oct. 20 with a 3:00 p.m. match-up against the Manchester Monarchs. Tune on the Sports Hub 102.3 or AHL Live.
