Springfield Falcons News Release
Glens Falls, NY - The Springfield Falcons (5-0-0-0) defeated the Adirondack Phantoms (1-2-0-2) in a shootout Saturday night by the final score of 3-2, coming back from a 2-0 deficit to extend the team's winning streak to five games to begin the season. Springfield had never won more than three games in a row to start the season before the 2013-14 campaign.
It took six rounds in the shootout to decide a winner, but conversions from Sean Collins and Cody Goloubef lifted the Falcons to victory. Springfield netminder Mike McKenna denied five of the six Adirondack attempts, in addition to 35 of the 37 shots through three periods and overtime to earn his second win of the season.
The Falcons were behind 2-0 late in the second period after Nick Cousins and Rob Bordson each found the back of the net for the Phantoms. Broc Little cut the deficit in half at the 15:39 mark of the middle frame as he played the puck on net from behind the goal line and banked it off of Adirondack goaltender Yann Danis' pad for the Falcons' first score of the game. The goal was Little's first with the Falcons and first pro goal in North America after spending the past two seasons playing overseas in Sweden.
Will Weber evened the score at 11:10 of the third period, taking a feed from Sean Collins and firing a slap shot from the left point past Danis. Danis made 29 saves on 31 shots through regulation and overtime, but allowed two conversions in the shootout to take the loss.
Neither team converted on a power play, as Springfield went 0-for-2 with the man advantage and Adirondack went 0-for-3.
The Falcons were outshot for the second night in a row, 37-31 Saturday night.
The Falcons conclude their current four-game road trip Friday, October 25 when they visit the Providence Bruins for the second time in a week. The team is back at the MassMutual Center Saturday, October 26 to host the Worcester Sharks at 7:00 p.m. for Halloween at the Nest.
