Providence Bruins News Release
Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins defeated the Lehigh Valley Phantoms night to sweep their two-game homestand against the first place team in the Atlantic Division. The P-Bruins got two goals from each from Peter Cehlarik and Joona Koppanen along with goals apiece from Colby Cave and Zach Senyshyn while Jordan Binnington made his 23rd start of the season in net.
Providence came out of the locker room full speed ahead and delivered two goals in the first four minutes of the game. Just 1:01 in, Cave took advantage of a rebound off a shot from Kenny Agostino while on the power play. Anthony Stolarz made the initial stop, but Cave was there in front to bury his 11th goal of the season and give the P-Bruins a 1-0 lead. Minutes later, with the help of Tommy Cross, Kenny Agostino sends a backhanded pass to Cehlarik, and he went top shelf at 3:21 for his 10th goal of the season. Providence outshot Lehigh Valley 17-5 through 20 minutes and took a 2-0 lead into the locker room
Just 5:29 into the second period, Senyshyn delivered the puck past Stolarz with the help of a centering pass from Blidh. He deflected it in from the crease for his ninth goal of the season and extended the P-Bruins lead to 3-0. That remained the score until there were just 58 seconds left in the period, when Providence struck yet again. Colton Hargrove sent a centering feed from the left wing corner to Koppanen, who beat Stolarz for his first professional goal and sent the P-Bruins to the intermission up 4-0.
Koppanen struck yet again 3:13 into the third with Hargrove again on the helping end. He fed Koppanen in front, and the rookie went top left corner for his second of the night to give the P-Bruins a 5-0 lead. Philippe Myers broke up Binnington's shutout at 6:56, but Cehlarik second goal of the night cemented a commanding 6-1 victory.
Binnington stopped 18 of 19 shots while Stolarz stopped 29 of 35. Providence was 1-4 on the power play and 3-4 on the penalty kill. The P-Bruins now hit the road for a four-game trip starting Wednesday at 7:05pm in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
