Rockford Rolls over Wolves Behind Bouma's Three-Point Night
March 24, 2018 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Rockford IceHogs News Release
ROCKFORD, Ill. - Lance Bouma, Matheson Iacopelli and Henrik Samuelsson combined for four unanswered goals in the second period to boost the Rockford IceHogs to a 5-3 comeback victory over the Chicago Wolves in front of a sellout crowd of 6,275 at the BMO Harris Bank Center Saturday night.
With the win, Rockford now has points in eight of its last nine contests. The IceHogs, with a .567 point percentage, currently trail the Iowa Wild's .568 point percentage for the final Central Division playoff berth.
After conceding two first-period goals to Brandon Pirri and Teemu Pulkkinen, the Hogs stormed back in the middle frame. Bouma notched his first of the game just 49 seconds into the stanza, snapping a rebound past Chicago netminder Max Lagace. Eight minutes later, Matheson Iacopelli recorded his second goal in four outings to knot the affair, wiring a wrist shot over Lagace's shoulder on the power play.
Rockford rode its momentum through the rest of the frame, taking its first lead of the night at 15:28 as Henrik Samuelsson found twine for the second consecutive game. Samuelsson received a pass from Tyler Sikura in the corner and snapped a one-timer through Lagace's legs from the left slot.
Bouma then bookended the IceHogs' onslaught with his second tally in 16 minutes, racing around the Chicago defense and chipping a sly shot into the top corner to stretch the Rockford lead to two. With his double against the Wolves, Bouma has now bagged three markers in his last two outings.
Pulkkinen reduced the Hogs' lead to one goal prior to the end of the period with his second on the night as well, but Rockford's Collin Delia shut the door the rest of the way, turning aside 33 of 36 shots, including a highlight-reel effort to preserve the IceHogs' lead late in the second period.
Chris DiDomenico sealed the IceHogs win with an empty-net lamplighter as the clock ticked down to 1:50 remaining in the game.
Next Home Game: Saturday, March 31 vs. San Jose | 6 p.m.
