Belleville Senators News Release
The Toronto Marlies scored three second period goals to spur them to a 4-2 win over the Belleville Senators Friday night at the Yardmen Arena.
Ethan Werek and Colin White scored for Belleville while Marcus Hogberg made 29 saves. Garret Sparks turned aside 25 shots in the Toronto goal while Vincent LoVerde, Adam Brooks, Miro Aaltonen and Ben Smith scored.
Belleville grabbed the lead at 8:55 on Werek's 10th goal of the season as he unleashed a wicked wrister that beat Sparks and took that advantage into the first intermission. Tyler Randell and Mason Marchment also dropped the gloves in the first, ending when Randell dropped Marchment with a right hand.

But the Marlies exploded to start the third period scoring three times in a 5:47 span to take a 3-1 lead. LoVerde tied the game at 1:52 of the second as he slapped a shot past Hogberg on a rebound before the Marlies took a 2-1 lead at 5:36 on Brooks' fifth of the year as he beat Hogberg low. Aaltonen's 16th of the year on an odd-man rush extended the Toronto lead to 3-1.
Smith notched his first of the night with 6:36 left in regulation as he banged home the puck from around the crease for his team-high 25th goal of the season.
White grabbed the Sens' second goal of the night with 14.7 seconds left in regulation as he found a rebound and beat Sparks for his ninth of the season.
Boston Leier made his Sens debut after signing an ATO with the team Thursday.
Belleville is back in action Saturday for the second half of its home-and-home with Toronto. The Senators are back home Sunday to host the Laval Rocket. Tickets are available.
