Laval Rocket News Release

LAVAL - In their first of three games this weekend, the Laval Rocket fell to the Charlotte Checkers 3-2 in overtime at Place Bell on Friday night in front of a crowd of 5,735 fans.

A strong defensive performance from the home team ensured that the Checkers had very few scoring chances, and that those they did have were easily handled by Charlie Lindgren, fresh off his stint with the Canadiens. As they were keeping the Checkers away from the net, Laval was putting as many pucks as they could from any angle on the other side- and it paid off for them.

Adam Cracknell netted his 24th of the season in the first period with assists from Chris Terry, who is chasing the league's scoring title, and from Kerby Rychel, who has contributed to the Laval scoreboard almost every game since his arrival from the Toronto Marlies.

The Rocket's second goal of the night came halfway through the second and was a goal of firsts for all involved. In his first game of the season, Jeremiah Addison scored his first AHL goal by backhanding the puck towards the net from the slot and beating Alex Nedeljkovic, and both Johnny Austin and Nikita Korostelev added their first AHL points in their first AHL games with the two assists.

Though Lindgren worked hard to defend his shutout, it was taken away by a bullet from Aleksi Saarela halfway through the third and then by Lucas Wallmark, who sent the game to overtime. He later went on to net the game-winner, giving the Checkers the victory in the first of two back-to-back games against the Rocket.
